Pretty good video except for at 2:47. The voice over claimed the “immersion in water as a symbol of the washing away of sins.” They were correct when they were talking about ritual purity, but incorrect in that regard. Remission of sin Baptism was not an Essene (or Qumran sectarian) belief or practice.

No, the leader of the Essenes was not the Messiah. The Essenes were awaiting the Messiah – and from the Dead Sea Scrolls we know they were expecting two Messiahs which they did not believe had come or was their leader.
